How to view Illustrator files online

  1. 1Drop your .ai file onto the viewer, or click to browse your device.
  2. 2The viewer reads the embedded PDF. No upload, no server, entirely in your browser.
  3. 3Download the original .ai, extract the PDF preview, or publish directly to a live Upfling URL.

Three types of AI file

Modern Illustrator files (CS and later, saved with PDF compatibility on, the default) begin with a PDF header and render directly. Compressed CC files are ZIP archives that may contain an embedded PDF entry, which the viewer extracts. Older pre-CS files or files saved with PDF compatibility off cannot be previewed; the viewer shows a re-save prompt instead. All three paths are handled client-side with no server involvement.

Host Illustrator files on a live URL

After previewing, click Publish to upload the original .ai file to Upfling. You get a subdomain where anyone can download the file. No account required to start.

Common questions

Most .ai files contain an embedded PDF, but only when saved with Create PDF Compatible File enabled in Illustrator Options. If your file shows the no-preview state, re-save it from Illustrator with that option checked.
